Bowman’s Bucket: How this driver is saving for an international adventure

·3 min read

Alex Bowman, driver of the Ally 48, recently obtained his first passport to prepare for the 2025 race in Mexico. With international travel now an option, he has his sights set on a dream vacation: Japan.

To help plan for travel expenses, Bowman created an Ally Bank Savings Account Bucket. Now he’ll prepare for all the costs of a major trip, including a splurge on a first-class plane ticket.

What takes Japan to the top of your travel list?

My brother taught English in Japan for five years. Since then, I've always been curious about going there.

When you’re traveling what is something you’ll splurge for?

I typically complain about flights to the West Coast. So, if I'm going to Japan, I'm at least splurging for a first-class ticket.

What are you most excited to see and do?

Besides just being there and absorbing the culture, I would want to visit different tracks. Motorsports are huge over there and they have a lot of really historic racetracks. There are also a lot of drifting tracks that I would like to try.

I like how easy it is to separate money and set goals so I can quickly see how close I am to hitting those marks [in my Ally Bank Savings Account].

What food are you most excited to eat and drink?

My coffee addiction may be in trouble – but I’m sure they have good options in Japan. Otherwise, sushi! And then other delicacies that we don’t have here. I love sushi here but I can only image how great it is there.

What kind of souvenirs do you buy when traveling?

I can’t really say specifically why but I've always had this want for a samurai sword.  I could see myself coming home with at least two or three of them.

What do you do with the dogs while you’re traveling?

I’ll have a house sitter or someone stay with them. It’s tempting to FaceTime and check in on them, but I typically have someone I really trust looking after them and giving me updates.

What do you like about the Ally app?

My schedule is super hectic, so I like how easy it is to separate money and set goals so I can quickly see how close I am to hitting those marks.
